Studio Piet Boon’s Office Brabant: A Study in Textural Contrast and Refined Industrialism

Set in the serene landscape of the Dutch region of North Brabant, Studio Piet Boon’s Office Brabant design presents an intriguing dialogue between the agricultural vernacular of the region and a sophisticated, contemporary sensibility.

Material Selection: Natural Tones and Textures

The interior of Office Brabant is defined by a palette of carefully selected natural materials, applied with meticulous attention to texture and consistency. Throughout the space, the robust character of natural stone contrasts with the warmth of the light-toned wooden flooring.

This interplay is evident in the communal dining area, where a large round table with a textured grey finish is supported by cylindrical supports.

The seating arrangement around the table offers a touch of classic modernism with its rich leather upholstery and chrome frames. The intricate multi-bulb pendant light fixture above adds a sculptural element by contrasting its dark metal with the lighter architectural surfaces.

Functional Details

The spatial configuration of Office Brabant emphasizes a seamless flow between the different functional areas. The integration of an inner courtyard, visible through large glass partitions framed in dark metal , blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, one of the fundamental principles of contemporary office design.

This transparency not only maximizes natural light penetration, but also creates a sense of connection with the surrounding landscape.

The corridor exemplifies this approach, punctuated by longitudinally framed glass doors and windows, allowing daylight to flood the interior and highlighting the rhythmic presence of the textured plaster walls and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling.

Focus on agricultural heritage

Every detail at Office Brabant emphasizes a commitment to understated luxury. Here, a striking pairing of cast metal interpretations of a shovel and a pitchfork sit against a textured brick wall. Finished in a combination of dark and metallic tones, these objects are elevated by refined execution, evoking a connection to the site’s agricultural past. Lighting fixtures, such as minimalist spotlights integrated into the ceiling, provide focused illumination without disrupting the clean lines of the architecture..

Outdoor Harmony

The outdoor spaces further illustrate Studio Piet Boon’s holistic design approach. A long, narrow reflecting pool surrounded by textured stone paving and natural grass provides a calming transition between the building and the landscape.

The building’s façade, a combination of contrasting materials—exposed brickwork and dark wood cladding—is a thoughtful response to both aesthetic and environmental considerations. Carefully landscaped spaces featuring native plant species surround the office.

Closed Shelters

Moving indoors, a more intimate setting emerges. Two low armchairs upholstered in rich brown leather and suede are paired with slim coffee tables, the ELLA + HERO table, to create a comfortable lounging area. Behind them, dark wood cabinets with a finely textured surface add a sense of history and depth to the space. Upholstery that matches the other areas reinforces the continuity of the materials.

In the kitchen area, dark gray cabinets with integrated appliances provide a stylish backdrop to a large kitchen island clad in dark-grained stone.

Minimalist pendant lights and KEKKE bar stools with their light-colored upholstery and wooden frames provide subtle contrast.

The living or communal area under the exposed wooden roof structure features generous gray sofas arranged around a dark coffee table and a textured rug. Large windows frame the views outside, reinforcing the indoor-outdoor connection.
