Club Saint-Denis: Maximalist Design and Lighting in Montreal
Montreal’s iconic Club Saint-Denis, which is 135 years old, has been renovated with lighting by HUMÀ Design + Architecture and LumiGroup. The space serves as a modern co-working space and private event center. The project combines luxury, contemporary design and preservation principles in the historic Victorian building.

Spatial Transformation
The redesign transformed Club Saint-Denis into a prestigious hub for Montreal’s business and social life. The HUMÀ Design + Architecture team designed the space without disturbing the building’s historic fabric. Much of the structure was rebuilt.
Inside, a custom reception desk adorned with marble, brass and lacquered panels welcomes you. Artworks, antiques and themed conference rooms are positioned along the architectural path leading to the ballroom.

Ballroom and Lighting
The ballroom is the focal point of the design. A monumental Onyx Rosa bar, custom sofas and a fresco are featured in the rich texture of the space. Lighting experts LumiGroup selected fixtures from internationally renowned brands such as Moooi, Terzani, Flos and Petite Friture.

LumiGroup lighting design expert Vivien Okonski describes their approach as “understanding the client’s vision and the story the space wants to tell.”

Pieces such as the Burnt Chandelier by Maarten Baas, designed for Moooi, were used. The burnt wood chandelier reflects the refined and unconventional spirit of the project.

Club Saint-Denis’ transformation was recognized with major industry awards:
