Louis Weisdorf iconic design MULTI-LITE PORTABLE LAMP
20.Bringing greater flexibility to one of the most adaptable light designs of the 20th century, GUBI‘s new edition of Louis Weisdorf’s sculptural and inventive Multi-Lite design reimagines the unique lamp in a portable format.
Working in collaboration with its designer for this iconic design, GUBI redeveloped the Multi-Lite Desk Lamp in a more compact design. It integrated a USB charging and added a three-level, touch-activated dimmer function. The signature ring around the lamp now also serves as a handle, allowing the lightweight lamp to be easily carried in and out of the house, making it ideal for outdoor events as well.
Multi-Lite was a reference to a special design that used multiple repeating elements. Two cylindrical shapes form the base of the lamp, with a metal ring surrounding it to secure the two-quarter spherical shade.
The Multi-Lite Pendant features two contrasting moving shades that encourage personalization and variety. By rotating the shades individually, the lamp can be transformed to shine light up, down, or asymmetrically.
In the table lamp, two small discs on either side of the outer ring are used to adjust the angle of the shade. However, in the portable version, these have been redesigned as dimmer switches. With three dimming settings, the brightness of the Multi-Lite Portable Lamp can be varied to suit your mood or meet the needs of the moment; So pleasant evenings on the veranda can continue long after the sun has set.
Like all lamps in the Multi-Lite family, the shades can be manually repositioned to change the direction and shape of the lamp’s light and have been meticulously designed to ensure seamless adjustment with one hand. To offset the fact that the Portable Lamp sits lower on the table, two diffusers at the top of the lamp prevent glare while creating an attractive glow of indirect light.
GUBI has developed four material variants that allow Multi-Lite to blend seamlessly into any venue style: black or brass shades with brass bases and white or chrome shades with chrome bases.
