Japanese architect Tadao Ando has designed a new watch for Cauny’s “The Architects of Time” series. Named Cauny Ando, the watch transforms Ando’s architectural philosophy into a wearable object.

The main inspiration for the watch is the green apple, a metaphor frequently used by Ando. This symbol represents youth, potential, renewal, and vitality. Inspired by Samuel Ullman’s poem “Youth,” Ando defines youth as a state of mind. The design prioritizes simplicity and balance, reflecting the architect’s clean and minimalist aesthetic.

The Cauny Ando features a minimalist design. There are no traditional hour markers on the dial, emphasizing the purity of the design. The hour and minute hands reference the green apple theme and are leaf-shaped. The case is offered in two different sizes, 31.5mm and 37.5mm, and has a polished pebble-like appearance with a lugless round form.

The watch is crafted from 316L stainless steel and finished with a domed sapphire crystal. At its heart lies an ultra-slim Swiss Ronda quartz movement. The collection offers two main versions: “Ando Green” in a vibrant apple green color, and “Ando Grey” with a brushed steel surface, paying homage to Ando’s concrete architecture. Both models feature Italian leather straps.

The Cauny Ando series is part of Cauny’s “The Architects of Time” collection, which also includes other Pritzker Prize-winning architects like Álvaro Siza and Rafael Moneo.
