Shenzhen by BAM Buji Wins Architecture+Color Category Award

The Shenzhen by BAM(Ballistic Architecture Machine ) Buji Residences project won the Architecture + Color category at the 2025 Architizer A+ Awards. This residential architecture project is a powerful example of landscape architecture, demonstrating how to integrate design into a challenging mountainous site. The Shenzhen by BAM project  masterfully blends a multi-unit housing landscape with a dynamic urban green space, creating a garden playground for its residents.

Buji Residences redefines traditional luxury housing with its vibrant colors. Pink, purple, and deep emerald green tones were used. These colors challenge generic neutral housing designs, demonstrating the potential of bold hues to enrich communities.

The project features 11 residential towers on challenging mountainous terrain, with height differences up to 16 meters. Buji Residences offers multi-functional landscape spaces, supporting high-density living by meeting residents’ diverse needs. BAM integrated areas like a swimming pool, multi-nodal playgrounds, chess and game rooms, reading zones, pet gardens, sports courts, and a dance plaza.

Architectural elements serve as functional parts of the landscape design: lobbies, site walls, corridors, and ramps are integral to the landscape programs. Grey-white cross-striped purple pathways cut through the lush courtyard. At the pool edge, striped yellow, black, and white mosaic benches contrast with soft pink tile facades. Guests can explore areas with tropical foliage and dynamic shadows from grey-white checkered flooring, following pink poolside columns.

At dusk, yellow zigzag lights and green landscape disco ball lights activate the purple moon dance plaza. Deep pink glows reflect on columned corridors and towers. The pool terrace‘s night view reveals a striped turquoise pool, circular yellow seating areas, and Washingtonia palm trees.

urban design

Buji Residences square is a dynamic composition of landscape areas broken up by classic striped patterns, where high contrast is balanced with lush greenery and bold colors. The racing slide playground features bright yellow stairs and a slide, combined with black and white striped columns and pink curved walls. A winding purple track, merged with Madagascar almond trees, allows for running.

The landscape’s columned arcade features a bold pink interior, surrounded by yellow mosaic benches, black-and-white striped columns, and lush plants. Rhythmic rectangular openings and skylights frame the greenery, casting dynamic shadows onto striped pavements. The grey-white striped moon gate in the cactus garden frames the striped pavements, plants, and pink walls beyond.

The “Playscraper” playground consists of a blue mesh frame adorned with yellow climbing modules and a slide, surrounded by a purple base and pink rings. The toddler play tent features a concentric green fabric net providing shade from the towers and a purple rubber bowl holding a white sandbox.

Multiple play areas connect via winding dark pink and purple terrain walls and a central blue LED ‘river’ element linking water play zones.
